The Glasgow Church of Christ is looking for a trained ministry couple to lead the church and equip the disciples for works of services.
About the Church
We are a church of 18 disciples (a mixture of marrieds, singles and students) with eight children. On a typical Sunday we generally have between 4 and 8 visitors attending our worship service. The church has been in Glasgow for ten years and good connections with other churches around the UK and we regularly meet up with the Edinburgh church for joint services. London is only 4 ½ hours away by train. The church was planted in 2001.
Glasgow itself is a wonderful city. It is the largest city in Scotland and the third largest in the whole of the UK. It has a population of around 650,000 people with a population of around 2,000,000 in the Greater Glasgow metropolitan area. Half of the population of Scotland lives within an hour of the city. It was once a major industrial city (at one point producing 80% of the world’s ships), but it went through a heavy decline in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Since then it has reinvented itself as a centre of business and commerce.
Glasgow is also well placed for visiting the amazing Scottish highlands, with Loch Lomond (the gateway to the Scottish Highlands) a mere 30 minutes from the city.
The people of Glasgow are known for their friendliness which is mixed with raw honesty, Glaswegians do not hold back from saying what they think. Famous Glaswegians include Billy Connolly (Actor/Comedian), Sir Alex Ferguson (ex-manager of Manchester United FC) and Lord Kelvin (Scientist after whom the Kelvin temperature scale was named after), plus numerous pop groups.
This summer, Glasgow becomes the host city of the Commonwealth Games (a mini Olympics for the member countries of the British Commonwealth) – http://www.glasgow2014.com/
Within the city itself there are three universities (Glasgow, Strathclyde and Caledonian) and the world renowned Glasgow School of Art, with another university in the Greater Glasgow area (over 82,000 students in total). Glasgow University is the fourth oldest in the English speaking world and one of Scotland’s few ancient universities. Glasgow University is a member of the elite Russell group of universities in the UK. William Barclay, the New Testament commentator was professor of NT Studies at Glasgow University. Alexander Campbell realised that people had to repent and be baptised for the forgiveness of sins while he was a student at Glasgow University. The first Church of Christ meetings took place in Glasgow.
